Looking for dog sled rides during the summer or fall? Go mushing for two miles through the woods behind a team of sled dogs while riding in a nimble and wheeled dog sledding cart. The closest thing to winter dog sledding on snow, this agile cart ride is the only one of its kind in Alaska. Travel over real training trails, around turns, and up and down hills. Based out of a real Iditarod kennel, try on real Iditarod mushing gear, meet professional dog mushers, and hear stories from the trail.
As you can imagine, dog sledding in Alaska is an iconic activity. While we get some reservations up to a year in advance, typically if you book 1-2 months ahead of time then you should be okay. Obvious exceptions to this are any major holidays and the weeks surrounding the start of the Iditarod (early March). The slowest period of the winter is mid-January to mid-February, all other times will generally get booked out.
If you are driving yourself from Anchorage, you will head north on the Parks Hwy towards Wasilla. Make sure to stay left at the fork towards Wasilla/Palmer! From there, you drive through Wasilla and continue north. We are approximately an hour and fifteen minutes’ drive from downtown Anchorage, and specific directions and info will also be sent to you at the time of booking your tour. Reservations are required. Feel free to contact us with any questions.
Things happen, we understand. If you would like to cancel more than three days beforehand, we will provide a full refund. If you want to cancel less than three days beforehand, a 50% refund will be given. No shows will be charged full price. We also provide a full refund in cases of inclement weather or road conditions and travel delays that affect your trip to Alaska.
Our group had an incredible experience at Alaska Mushing School. In a relaxed but professional environment we learned about the race, dogs and prep for the Iditarod. They took great care to see that we had a good time. They encouraged us to interact with the dogs which was a highlight for sure. I can't recommend them enough!
A once in a lifetime experience! A great look at the world of mushing and the bond between the dogs and rider. Highlight of our Alaskan vacation!
Absolutely awesome. I enjoyed it so much I went for a second ride!
